HMAg started back in 2005 when Rob Holmes and Gavin McDouall, who had been working as agronomists in the region, established Holmes and McDouall Agronomy in Moree NSW. Gav and Rob recognised the need for independent, practical client focused agronomy support to improve profitability and productivity.

Over the years our client base has grown and the business name shortened to HMAg Pty Ltd. The team is based in Moree and services surrounding areas.

The Team

Robert Holmes

Director and Senior Agronomist

Bachelor of Rural Science, Fertcare Accredited Advisor, Accredited Mungbean Advisor, Professional member of the Crop Consultants Association.

Rob, in partnership with Gavin McDouall formed HMAg in 2005. Rob has worked as a broadacre and irrigated agronomic advisor in the Moree region of Northern NSW for over 25 years. He now provides specialised on-farm consultancy to grower clients on both irrigated and dryland cropping systems.

Rob has an affinity for continued research and science based innovation in the agriculture. He accomplishes this as a member of the NGA Local Research Group representing the Mungindi/Balonne region, identifying and prioritising regional cropping challenges. Rob is also a Professional member of the Crop Consultants Association.

Gavin McDouall

Director and Senior Agronomist

Bachelor of Science in Agriculture – University of Sydney, Fertcare Accredited, Professional member of the Crop Consultants association, active member of the Northern Grower alliance research committee – helping to direct GRDC funded research in the Moree region.

HMAg was formed by Gavin and Rob in 2005. Gavin has worked as an agronomic advisor to both irrigated and dryland enterprises in the Northern region of NSW for over 30 years. He now provides specialised on farm consultancy predominantly in dryland cropping systems in the Moree district.

Gavin also enjoys a game of golf, fishing, and touring on the Africa Twin Motorcycle.

Alex Trinder

Agronomist

Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Graduate Certificate Cotton Production, Gwydir Valley CGA Treasurer 2024, CCA board Vice President 2024, Australian Cotton Young Achiever Finalist 2024.

Alex, first became a member of the HMAg team in 2016 after finishing university in Wagga Wagga. Over the drought she was able to gain some experience in the Murrumbidgee and Lachlan Valleys being contracted out to Customised Farm Management in Griffith working with a range of broadacre, irrigation and horticultural crops.

Alex has been continuing to learn and advise clients on a range of broadacre and irrigation crops in the Moree area. You’ll often see her and her border collie Duncan out and about.

Duncan Webb

Graduate Agronomist

Bachelor of Agriculture and Bachelor of Business.

Duncan became a member of the HM Ag team in October 2023. Since joining he has immersed himself in both the irrigated and broadacre cropping programs of our clients, keenly learning about both these aspects within agronomy. He aims to gain a greater discernment regarding risk management and how to increase the profitability within farming systems, through developing a greater understanding of agronomic practices.
